Besson Artist becomes Euphonium lecturer at Melbourne University

E-mail Print PDF
Besson Euphonium Artist Matthew van Emmerik has been appointed euphonium, chamber and low brass lecturer at Melbourne University, beginning March this year.  This is a first for an institution in Victoria and a great opportunity in building up heightened euphonium education, and other opportunities in the education sector.

This news coincides with Matthews latest CD release with Summit Records the well known U.S based record company.  This is a huge feat in itself as it makes Matthew the first Australian artist to be released under their label.  The disk entitled 'Utaki - The Sacred Grove' features euphonium repertoire never recorded before in chamber music settings.  The disk features the Flinders String Quartet, Australian Chamber Brass and piano accompaniment.  Two world premiere Australian works head up the CD, and the title track 'Utaki - The Sacred Grove', was composed by Melbourne Composer Mike Fitzpatrick, which won the Harvey Phillips International Award for composition at the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference (ITEC) in 2008.
