WA State Titles

This is not an official report. It is the impressions gained by an experienced bandsperson who has run contests and festivals.

I can not find the spellcheck on this software so bear with me.

It is good to see the expansion of this event and credit should be given to Brian Dodds for his previous work with the "Estydffed Concept'. 18 bands performed over the weekend.

Paul Decinque ran the event, and was in three places at any given time doing several things as well as conducting three winning bands. His City of Perth Concert band outscored two of the bands in the grade above them.

Margaret River Concert band jumped two grades from last years win in "Queens Cup" "B" grade and beat one band in "B" grade at State level.

Dr Geoffrey Lowe has more degrees than a thermomitor and adjudicated Friday night, stage managed Saturday and  conducted Canning City to a 98/100 point score in the "B" grade test on Sunday.

Of interest was the "C" grade band claiming they could not obtain the dots for the  test "Dark side of the Moon", a piece that has been contested in other states.

It is to be hoped WABA publishes the total scores somewhere, their website is dormant.

Mention must be made of Goldfields Brass band who with a little help from Esperence made the longest trip of all and scored very well in "D" grade. Greg Coleman dusted off his sop after a break of 2 years to help with this result.

It is great to see this event gaining strength.

Cheers Almost
